THE BREATH OF LIFE SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH
“I am the way, the truth and the Life, No man cometh to the Father but by me.” John 14:6.
The hustle/bustle of the city of Washington was disturbed in a mighty way by the fervor of the preaching of God's messenger, Elder Charles D. Brooks at the Warner Theater from October 22, 1978 until November 18, 1978. Over two hundred answered the call, "Whosoever will let him come.” God showered His blessings on this group of new believers by giving them a new church, The Breath of Life Seventh-day Adventist Church. Elder Luther R. Palmer, President of the Allegheny East Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, served as our acting pastor. The prayers and work of Brothers Cheatham and Harrison and Sisters Lohman, Fitzgerald, McDonald and Arties, established Adventists, helped the Church in the way that is necessary in an undertaking of this kind; and they continue to do so.
December 9, 1978 vas a magnificent day for this small group of new believers, for the church was officially installed by the distinguished President and President-elect of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists; and the President and officers of the Allegheny East Conference were also leaders and participants in this most important event. The Breath of Life Church was blessed on that day also because this was the first time a President of the General Conference attended the installation of a church in the Allegheny East Conference.
The Breath of Life Church has made its temporary home the Dupont Park Seventh-¬Day Adventist School’s chapel/auditorium. We were nurtured in God's Word by Dr. Mamie Lindo, a superb teacher who illustrated to us that modern theories of teaching really are from God's word. She gave us illustrations and demonstrations that deepened our understanding. The thirst for new information about the Word was furnished by a series of other guest speakers from the General and Allegheny East Conferences -- such as Elders Charles Cheatham, U. S. Willis, M. Van Putten, and Dr. DeShay -- and through a three-week revival by Elder David McCottry. Elder Brooks continued to meet with us when his schedule permitted.
The news of the new church born as a result of the Breath of Life Crusade sped far and wide; and we were finally blessed with a Pastor, Elder J. Alfred Johnson II. Our enthusiasm and love are contagious; and Elder Johnson is an able leader. We are climbing Jacob' s ladder, for we are soldiers of the Cross.
“Draw nigh to God and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands ye sinners and purify your hearts, ye double minded.” James 4:8.
“Trust in the Lord with all thy heart, and lean not to thy own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him and He will direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5,6.
